"Joy" Layout using the Scraps of Darkness "Boys Will Be Boys" Kit for March

Hello everyone! Today I would like to share my fourth layout using March's Scraps of Darkness "Boys Will Be Boys" Kit. For the past week, I have actually attempted several different layouts. Finally, I realized the problem I was facing: I was making my backgrounds way more complicated than they needed to be! When I realized what I was doing, it was like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders, and I was able to create this layout titled "Joy".

Here is a preview of the "Boys Will Be Boys" Main Kit and the Elements Add On kit for March:

Using the Blue Fern Studios "Chesterville" collection paper included in the Main Kit, I used black gesso and a stencil to begin my background. When that was dry, I used white paint with the Carabelle Studio Circle Collage Cling Stamp to add the white over the black gesso design.

I wrapped some cheesecloth sprayed with black paint around the star buttons from the Elements Add On kit.

To add a little more interest to my background, I randomly applied the American Crafts POP! Microbeads in "Wave" (included in the Elements Add On Kit) with some matte gel medium.

The title at the bottom is actually some of the BoBunny stickers in the Elements Add On Kit with some Glossy Accents over the letters.

I liked how the title turned out, so I decided to add a pearl to each of my Darice Black Sequins from the Main Kit with Glossy Accents over the embellishments.

"Smiles" Layout using the Scraps of Darkness "Boys Will Be Boys" Kit

Hi everyone!  Today I wanted to share with you my third project using the March Scraps of Darkness Kit "Boys Will Be Boys".  I used items from the main kit and elements add on kit along with various items from previous Scraps of Elegance kits. You can visit the online store any time to see all of the awesome goodies!

My layout is titled "Smiles", and I actually used the "Timeless" title by Blue Fern Studios from a Scraps of Elegance kit last year. The Prima flowers were also from a Scraps of Elegance kit from last year. I loved these additions for my layout!

From the "Boys Will Be Boys" Main Kit, I used a gorgeous Blue Fern Studios paper from the Chesterville Collection for my background. To build my background, I used the Misc. Me Journaling Cards from the BoBunny Life in Color Collection.

To color some of my cardboard pieces, I used the Lindy's Stamp Gang Oktoberfest Orange Magicals Shaker from the main kit and a tiny bit of the Tim Holtz Salty Ocean Distress Crayon on the second piece of cardboard.

From the "Boys Will Be Boys" Elements Add On Kit, I used some of the Clear Stickers from the BoBunny Life in Color Collection along with the Carabelle Studio Circle Collage Cling Stamp to add more interest to the background.

I was really happy to have the American Crafts POP! Microbeads in "Wave" to add to some glass bead gel and a stencil. The USArt Quest Minnie Prills from a Scraps of Elegance kit last year were a nice touch with the Wave Microbeads.

Surprisingly, what I think really pulled it all together was adding the Darice Black Sequins from the main kit to my layout!

Anyhow, thank you for taking a look at my layout today, and I hope you come back soon to visit!

Scraps of Darkness Vintage Mixed Media Layout #2 for March - "Boys will be Boys"

Hello guys and gals! I am here today with my second layout for the March, 2017 Scraps of Darkness "Boys will be Boys" Kit.

Scraps of Darkness Masculine Vintage Mixed Media Layout

The picture I used is a vintage photo of my grandfather and one of his buddies when he was a young man. They were driving around and put their heads out the windows, so I thought it really portrayed the "Boys will be Boys" theme for March.

Believe it or not, this is my first attempt at using a large chipboard title on a layout. It was a challenge to figure out how I would design my layout and how I would paint the background, but I absolutely love challenges!

I began with one of the Blue Fern Studios Chesterville Collection papers included in the "Boys will be Boys" main kit to begin my background. In addition to the title chipboard, I also used one of the Blue Fern Studios Splattered Arrows chipboard from the Elements Add On kit and tucked it around the top picture so the arrow points at the guys (I know the old photo makes it slightly tough to notice that anyone is even in the car, so the arrow was perfect for this).

From the main kit, I used the BoBunny Life In Color Collection Misc. Me Journaling Cards under my pictures, Mini Screw Head Brads to make the pleats in my fabric (I love not having to sew), and the Lindy's Stamp Gang Oktoberfest Orange Magicals Shaker spritzed with water on my background.

I also had fun using the "Boys will be Boys" Elements Add On kit. I used some of the BoBunny Life In Color Clear Stickers, Echo Park Petticoats & Pinstripes Boy Words Decorative Tape, and the Carabelle Studio Circle Collage Cling Stamp.

Visit the Scraps of Darkness online store to see the gorgeous monthly main kits and the many add on kits available - not to mention all of the other merchandise that scrapbookers and mixed media artists need!

Hopefully I was able to give some inspiration today! I know I had fun trying some new techniques for this layout. As always, any questions, comments, and suggestions are appreciated. Constructive criticism is okay with me :-) I like to brainstorm with others.
